Sunday Fun

Creating a garden for Jesus
We have made a fresh start for our Sunday groups for children and young people.
A crèche is set up in the church and for those aged 3+ there are activities in the hall.
For the first and fifth Sundays in the month we meet in the church for family services.
For the second and fourth Sundays we start in the main church and then go over to the hall and cabin for our own church, where there are 3 groups.
Every third Sunday is a craft Sunday when we think of what is coming up in the church calendar and design and make crafts around that theme: these involve all the young people groups.

Making hot cross buns for Easter
Sunday Club: Young people between 3 and 10 years old meet in the hall where we have singing, games a bible story and crafts and finish with a drink, biscuit and prayer.
Pathfinders: Young people between 10 and 13 years
old meet in the lounge and start off with a drink and biscuit. They then have a variety of activities involving games, discussion, bible study and prayer.Metal: Young people aged 14 years+
meet in the cabin and are mainly a self led group which is a new venture for them and the church. They have prayer, bible study and breakfast. In addition, they are planning to meet socially as well as on Sundays, and are involved on church rotas, e.g. cleaning, and are planning to be involved with mission in Bristol. Please pray for us with this new venture and if you know anybody who would like to be a part of our activities then please come along and join us.

House Groups at Holy Trinity
Why not consider joining one of our Housegroups this year?We meet on Thursdays: in the mornings at the Church Hall Lounge from 10.30am until 12.00noon; or in the evenings at a private house from 7.45pm until 9.30pm.
Meetings are informal: we catch up on news over refreshments and then have a period of Bible Study. Through these small groups we learn by studying together, develop friendships with other church members and also share prayer needs.
Learning together is much more fun than struggling with the Bible at home as we share our own insights and experiences. Our study time does not aim to be in-depth study just for the sake of it, but to enable us to understand the Bible better so that we may develop in our Christian faith.
If you cannot come every week do not worry, but it would be good to see you most weeks.
Housegroups have been a regular and important part of the ministry of Holy Trinity for many years, so please consider joining us.

The Music Group of Holy Trinity, Stapleton
We are a small, friendly group of mixed musical abilities whose purpose is to give a lead to the congregation at the 10.30am Sunday service in church.
Not all of us play an instrument or read music, but we all have a passion for Christ and worship and music. We are always eager to learn new material and like to introduce new songs on a regular basis. Our repertoire ranges from traditional to modern music.
This means we have to practise regularly and our usual time for this is between 7.00pm and 8.30pm every Wednesday.
Our group is available for weddings and funerals and occasionally join with our sister church St John’s, Frenchay, especially at Easter for their Good Friday Cantata.
You are very welcome to come and join us, no matter what your age.
All we ask is that you can sing in tune (if you can play a musical instrument so much the better) and attend our weekly practise fairly regularly.
To get in touch please telephone the Parish Office on 0117 9585556 or click here to e-mail.
Bellringers
"Church bells beyond the stars heard"
(by George Herbert, from his poem ‘Prayer’)
Church bells are, and have been, used for many purposes, for example: to call the congregation to church; proclaim a happy event such as marriage; as a warning; as a final salutation to the departed. Many feel their spirits lifted by the joyous ringing of church bells, no matter what troubles they may have in their lives. The clarity and purity seems to touch us as no other sound does. To produce this sound, however, requires a dedicated and knowledgeable team of bell ringers.
Most churches have peals of between five and eight bells, although there can be more in larger buildings such as cathedrals. At Holy Trinity, Stapleton we have six bells. Each bell has a different tone and varying when each is rung, according to a ‘pattern’ or ‘method’, produces the melody. A ‘pattern’ is the order in which the bells are rung and a ‘method’ is a number of ‘patterns’ put together to form a more complex sound. Bell ringing can be a most satisfying exercise, even for those who are not musically inclined, and there are thousands of ringers throughout the country who will testify to this.
So, what do you need to be a bell ringer?
Well, if you are willing to learn how to ring a church bell, are enthusiastic, and can attend practice once a week fairly regularly, that’s about it. Bells are rung mostly for Sunday Church Services, and, although you are welcome to go to the service, there is no requirement that you attend it.
One myth that can be exposed is that you have to be exceptionally fit: it’s simply not true. Everything is in the technique. (The only strength you will need is in your legs to climb the stairs to the bell tower!)
You do not need any special skills to become a very good ringer and certainly do not need to know anything about music.
Holy Trinity Church, Stapleton, has twelve ringers at present and they are always ready to welcome new people who want to join them. We are lucky to have a very sociable team, everyone is always willing to help one another, and this is evident in the practice sessions held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9.00pm in the belfry. There is a good mix of experienced ringers and those who are learning. The techniques that you need to start will be passed on freely and it’s up to you how fast you progress.
Interested? Our Tower Captain Mike Purnell will be happy to welcome you and provide a practical introduction to bell ringing. You can contact him via the Parish Office, tel.no.0117 958 5556, or click here to e-mail.

CAMEO
Our name means "Come And Meet Each Other" and that’s what we do at Begbrook Primary School between 8.00pm and 10.00pm on the second Tuesday of each month, except August. We meet for fun, fellowship and friendship, always have a raffle and end with refreshments. Sometimes we have a speaker, photo slides or a demonstration of interest to members.
At our AGM in January we decide the programme for the year and try to include at least two meetings when we shall either go out for a meal or visit somewhere of interest in or around Bristol.
Membership costs only £5.00 a year and £1.00 per meeting that you attend. This, plus the raffle, helps with the cost of speakers etc..
We are always ready to welcome new members and if you’re interested please telephone us on 0117 958 5556 or click here to e-mail.
